Wix Studio vs. Wix Editor (Classic): Which One Should You Use in 2026?

  • Wix Editor (Classic) = the fastest, most DIY‑friendly path for solo owners and small teams.

  • Wix Studio = pro‑grade control for agencies and serious projects (breakpoints, real‑time collaboration, Figma import, custom CSS).

  • Important: Sites can’t be converted between editors. Choosing now saves you a rebuild later.

We’re Wix Studio–Certified. Every Studio project we deliver is led by a certified designer because Studio builds require more time, more precision, and deeper responsive work than Classic projects. See our Studio services →

The 60‑Second Chooser

  • Pick Wix Editor if you want a straightforward, no‑code builder with templates and a simple mobile view. Great for cafés, solopreneurs, local services, and “I need a site live this month.”

  • Pick Wix Studio if you need professional control — real‑time multi‑user editing, breakpoint‑based responsiveness (desktop/tablet/mobile + custom), Figma import, and custom CSS. Ideal for agencies, brands, and complex sites.

What Each Editor Feels Like

Wix Editor: “Get it live and look good doing it”

For smaller sites and simpler needs, Editor is speedy and friendly. You design desktop, fine‑tune the mobile view, and call it a day. It supports full‑width sections, strips, and elements that adapt without code. If you’re moving fast and keeping it simple, Editor’s your buddy. Helpful next step: See our Wix Editor websites

Wix Studio: “Design control without wrestling a framework”

Studio was built for pros. Your team can edit together in real time, structure designs across breakpoints (with changes cascading from desktop down), pull in Figma sections, and polish with CSS for brand‑perfect details. Translation: more control, more refinement, more… time (worth it). Helpful next step: Work with our certified Studio team

Time, Effort & Budget: Why Studio Builds Take Longer (and Pay Off)

Studio adds more powerful levers — breakpoints, CSS, Figma import, multi‑user workflows, and deeper QA across devices. That’s why Studio projects typically require more hours than Classic Editor builds. It’s not red tape; it’s craftsmanship.

  • Concurrent teamwork speeds collaboration, but you’ll invest time in roles, permissions, and structured review.

  • Breakpoint design means you’re intentionally shaping tablet and mobile — not just “shrinking” desktop.

  • CSS & Figma unlock precision, but precision takes time.

Our policy: Every Studio project is managed by a Wix Studio–Certified designer — because that level of flexibility and responsiveness demands specialized expertise.

Non‑Negotiables (to Avoid Headaches Later)

  1. No cross‑editor conversion. Editor → Studio or Studio → Editor isn’t supported. Choosing now avoids a rebuild later.

  2. Switching your workspace ≠ converting your sites. Moving to the Studio workspace doesn’t migrate your existing Editor sites. You can still edit them in the original editor.

  3. Editor X update: In January 2025, Editor X fully transitioned to Wix Studio. If you used Editor X, your sites were automatically updated to the Studio Editor.

How Responsiveness Differs (Practically)

  • Editor: You polish a separate mobile view after designing desktop. Great for straightforward layouts.

  • Studio: You design across breakpoints with cascading behavior (large → small). Use Responsive AI to adjust layouts intelligently. Perfect for complex, content‑heavy sites.

FAQs

Can I upgrade my existing Editor site into Studio? No. You’ll need to rebuild in Studio to use Studio‑only features.

Can I switch a Studio site back to the Editor? No — site switching isn’t supported in either direction.

If I join the Studio workspace, do my old sites move automatically? No. Your Editor sites stay editable in the Editor; new Studio projects use the Studio Editor.

Do I need a certified designer for Studio? While Wix doesn’t require it, we do — every Studio project we build is led by a Wix Studio–Certified designer to ensure quality, performance, and efficiency.
